He’s Here
Pentecost Sunday (June 8 this year) marks the moment in the church calendar when we remember the coming of the Holy Spirit to the Apostles (Acts 2). For me, it’s always a powerful, personal reminder of the Holy Spirit’s presence in my own life.
One bitterly cold, snowy day in late January many years ago, I had to call an ambulance for my dad. After doing all I could to make him comfortable, there was nothing left but to wait. He sat quietly in his chair, eyes closed, focused on each labored breath. I sat beside him, listening, praying—for
wisdom, and for strength to face whatever was ahead.
As I prayed, a calm began to settle over me. The fear lifted, replaced by a quiet strength and sense of acceptance. I opened my eyes and looked around the room, half expecting to see some visible sign of the presence I felt so deeply—the presence of the Lord.
Then Dad spoke. His voice was faint, so I asked him to say it again. “He’s here, you know,” he said.
I remember just sitting in silence for a few seconds and thinking this quiet living room is now a Holy place.
“I know, Dad,” I said. “I can feel Him, too.”
Dad’s voice grew stronger as he shared a moment from his faith journey—a time when he heard the Lord speak clearly: “Nothing else matters but that you love Me and do My work.”
The ambulance arrived soon after. But I knew then that whatever came next, Dad and I—together in God’s presence on that wintry day—would face it with peace and assurance.
Dad came home after a short hospital stay and lived a few more years. He passed away in 2001. But I will never forget the unmistakable presence of the Holy Spirit that day—and the words that still echo: “He’s here.”

Note: My favorite version of this song is by the Gaither Vocal Band. You can hear it on YouTube with link: https://youtu.be/uIH6kbmcRds?si=VTN7FX7SkMEM-zol
[Chorus]
He is here, Hallelujah!
He is here, Amen!
He is here, Holy, Holy,
I will bless His name again.
He is here, Listen closely,
Hear Him calling out your name,
He is here, you can touch Him.
You will never be the same.
